Central Florida Knights (-6 ½) @ Marshall Thundering Herd

Wednesday, October 13 – 8:00 PM

Wednesday night UCF and Marshall will face off in a nationally televised ESPN event as the Knights visit Huntington to battle the Herd. These former MAC rivals have a long history of distaste for each other, and although they no longer share a conference, this game is sure to be as bitter as ever.

The Knights rocked the UAB Blazers last week in a 42-7 win. Key components to that victory included a duo of QB’s, Rob Calabrese and Jeff Godfrey. Neither QB has been outstanding so far this year but they are doing well in keeping their team at the top. Godfrey brings another element to the game as his quickness allows him to run for yardage whether flushed out of the pocket or forced straight up the middle. These two QB’s will be complimented by the team’s top RB Ronnie Weaver, who has 255 yards and 5 TD’s this season.

UCF defense has been the difference maker in most of their games. Ranked 9th in the nation they have allowed just over 260 yards per game and have scored an average of nearly 14 per game, landing them the 8th seed for points scored by a defense. NC State is the only team to score more than 17 points on this defense, which was prompted by 5 offensive turnovers.

Marshall will need to make improvements to their offense if they plan to keep up in this game. Last week Southern Miss gave them a spanking as they tallied 41 points to Marshall’s 16. QB Brian Anderson needs to make more heads-up plays as his interceptions have been as costly as his 8 TD passes have been productive.

Central Florida is 6-3 SU in its last 9 games, but just 5-10 SU in its last 15 games on the road. When playing Marshall, UCF has gone 5-0 SU in the last 5 games and the total has gone UNDER in 6 of the last 8. Marshall is 1-4 SU and 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games while going 1-5 ATS in its last 6 when playing Central Florida.

Kansas State Wildcats (-2 ½) @ Kansas Jayhawks

Thursday, October 14 – 7:30 PM

The Sunflower Showdown will commence for the 108th time as the Jayhawks host their instate rivals The Wildcats. The Kansas State Wildcats are aiming to get back on track after getting pummeled by Nebraska last Thursday, but the Jayhawks would like nothing more than to upset them.

Both of these teams have been stewing over their dreadful performances in their previous outings. The Wildcats were dominated by Nebraska in a 48-13 loss at home after being dogged by only 11 points. The defense gave up nearly 600 yards and 6 TD’s. The Jayhawks have no room to brag though, as they folded to The Baylor Bears 55-7.

Neither of these teams has the talent of the Cornhuskers, but if they want to win, both will need to make dramatic improvements. Kansas State just needs to play better defense all around. The secondary looked too slow against the Huskers and the line was overpowered. RB Daniel Thomas will need to lead the team’s offense by adding to his 691 yards and 6 TD’s this season.

Kansas had trouble containing the speedy QB Robert Griffin III in their loss to Baylor last week. However, Carson Coffman doesn’t have the speed of Griffin which should make him easier to contain, although he is dangerous in the air.

The Sportsbooks are keeping this one tight. KSU is just 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games on the road and 1-8 in its last 9 on the road. In its last 6 against Kansas, the Wildcats have gone 2-4 ATS and 11-4 SU in its last 15. Kansas is 2-10 SU in its last 12 but 18-7 SU in its last 25 at home.

Cincinnati Bearcats (-2 ½) @Louisville Cardinals

Friday, October 15 – 8:00 PM

The Friday night lights bring about a Big East rival between the 2-3 Bearcats and 3-2 Cardinals. NCAA bettors love a good match in the Big East because the teams are always so close. This game is sure to be no different.

The Cardinals are really gunning for the defending champions this season as Louisville has lost both matches in the last 2 seasons. Louisville’s trip to Oregon State revealed the true talent of the team, as they outgained the Beavers by over 100 yards in a respectable 35-28 loss. Oregon State has become one of the best teams in the nation so there is no shame in a close loss for the Cardinals.

Louisville also possesses the number one rushing attack in the league with RB Bilal Powell leading the charge. He has gained over 600 yards this season and 7 TD’s. QB Adam Froman has found success as he has accumulated 1177 yards and 9 TD’s in 5 games this season.

However, Cincinnati holds the number one run defense in the league allowing an average of 84 yards per game and 2.6 yards per rush. But the offense is somewhat weak and has not put up the big numbers that Bearcats coach Butch Jones would like.

Cincinnati is 2-4 SU in the last 6 games but 20-5 SU in the last 25. In the last 12 games against Louisville the Bearcats have gone 4-8 ATS. Louisville is just 7-15 SU in its last 22 games but 5-2 SU in its last 7 at home.
